GRV Media are doing work placements for third-year students and post-graduates. Here is everything you need to know about it and how to get involved.
Who are we?
GRV Media is a digital publisher and website monetisation specialist. With over 20 years of experience in producing great online content, we know what it takes to grow a successful web presence and effectively monetise it.
We are Europe’s largest independent online sports publisher with a portfolio of over 35 sports sites, including American sports, combat sports, F1, football, golf, tennis, and more.
Our brands
Whatever your main sports passion, GRV covers it. Here are some of our biggest brands, and the rest of our brands can be found on our website.
Why choose GRV for work experience?
Coming out of university can be a daunting task, especially when trying to build a career in sports journalism. With little experience under your belt, it can be difficult to find an appropriate role.
GRV Media wants to break the mould in the industry by acknowledging the potential in young, budding talent, which is why we created The Writer Lab.
We offer aspiring writers the chance to collaborate with seasoned journalists in the world of online publishing.
The Writer Lab focuses on equipping talent with essential skills often overlooked in traditional journalism courses – skills critical for success in today’s fast-evolving media landscape.
We want to provide students with a unique platform to hone their craft and fast-track their entry into the world of digital journalism.
Here are some skills you’ll learn:
- Basic on-page SEO practice
- Content and headline selection
- How to write Google Discover-targeted content
- How to actively engage your audience by producing quality content
- Learn how the business works
- How to use analytics and data to your advantage
- How to spot stories and timeliness in publishing
- How to source stories and improve news sense
We’re also proud to provide a one-on-one experience throughout the placement. Unlike a lot of traditional placement schemes.

How have other candidates found the work placement?
We’ve received some great feedback from our initial placement courses.
How did you find the overall experience?
“Genuinely enjoyed and gained loads from the placement. It filled gaps in my knowledge, gave me the opportunity to write about topics I found interesting and enjoyed, and gave me really helpful guidance on ideas, SEO practice, and more.”
What new skills or knowledge did you gain during the placement?
“The major upside of this was filling gaps that my uni course hadn’t educated me on in terms of digital publishing and SEO.
“I’ve done lots of other work using WordPress but have never been fully taught the actual reasoning behind using certain tags and categories, how tags could benefit searches, and likewise with internal links and anchor text.
“Actually understanding the rationale and best practices behind these features and why using best practice could help get my work seen by more people was extremely valuable. The training was really informative and explained exactly why we were learning what we were learning.”
Did you feel supported by The Writer Lab team during your placement?
“Definitely – the team were always on hand to help with any questions, really understanding when I needed a bit of flexibility for other commitments and family travel, and gave me feedback on every single one of my pieces which was useful, constructive, and encouraging.
“Having done a lot of work placements, this is the first one where I’ve had feedback on everything I’ve produced. The feedback was also really honest, eg explaining why certain ideas or angles I’d pitched might not work as well or how they could be improved.”
What will I be doing with my day?
Alongside some theory work, you’ll have the opportunity to write articles for one of our major websites. You can write on any, or multiple of the following sports:
- Golf
- Tennis
- Formula 1
- NBA
You’ll be producing a range of content, from news pieces to features and fan reactions. No two days are the same at GRV!
You’ll also receive around-the-clock care and feedback from our dedicated team in The Writer Lab to ensure you’re getting the most out of the process.
The role is entirely remote, so all you’ll need is a laptop and an internet connection!
